Ye Qing and Gu Yun had been in a campus romance for many years and were about to get married when Ye Qing's rival, Qiao Niannian, pleaded with Gu Yun's father to stop their union. When Gu Yun's father refused, Qiao Niannian, in a fit of rage, killed him and fled. Five years later, Ye Qing, now Mrs. Gu, learns from a doctor that she is suffering from terminal bone cancer. At the same time, Qiao Niannian returns to the Gu family, vowing to steal Gu Yun from Ye Qing.
